When preparing your dye bath or mixing the dye, start with less than the recommended amount of dye in order to get the desired shade. Always do a test sample along the way.
Fiber Reactive Dyes are also known as “cold water reactive dyes,” or “cool water reactive dyes”. Warm water from the tap works best. These dyes are ONLY designed to dye plant based or natural fibers such as cotton, linen, rayon, hemp, etc. They DO NOT work AT ALL on polyester. It is suggested to use Soda Ash as a “Fixer” to set the dye.
Adding water that is too cold can make it hard for the dye powder to dissolve. Adding water that is too hot can make the dye react with the water, exhausting the dye before it reaches the fabric? Water that is warm (24°C – 35°C) is the best temperature.
